Coping Skill: Homemade lava lamp

A lava lamp can be mesmerizing to watch. When you watch something like that, it can help you relax and slow yourself down. It could be a great thing to do when you are about to study for a long time, sit and do homework or about to do some reading.

You could buy a lava lamp, or you could actually make your own. What you need:

  • a plastic bottle

  • oil

  • water

  • food coloring

  • alka-seltzer

Combine the water and food coloring to make a color for your lava lamp. Then fill the bottle ⅔ of the way with oil. Then pour the colored water on top, leaving an inch of space at the top. Break the alka-seltzer up into small parts and drop one piece in at a time. Watch the lava lamp come to life!!
